THE AMAZING STONE STRUCTURE
THE MEGALITHIC ARCHITECTURE OF KATHOUN. |
This megalithic architecture is in a village of Santhal Parganas near Godda town called Kathoun. This site was discovered by me about a decade ago. This incredible structure can easily pass as the eight wonder. The surface of the stone has been scraped to bring out its concealed yellow and is surely man made. The architecture is so enormous that one is literally dwarfed standing adjacent to it (testify in the snap).
The structure reminds of the tail of a diving whale. If one observes keenly then one can see that the stone in the foreground also resembles a whale. However the local villagers who are predominantly Santal tribals believe that this is actually an unfinished butterfly created by an unknown artist at some primitive times.
I had written many a times to the District Administration of Godda town, to the State Tourism Dept and to the State Archaeology Dept to save this amazing structure by converting this into a tourist spot but as expected no response had come. I have also featured the site in my book.
The government which cares least for the nation's heritage, on the contrary to my pleas has leased out the site to stone miners a few years ago. The company is mining the site since then raising the entire hill to the ground. Its about a couple of years now since I had visited the site I do not know whether this stunning stone is still there or not.
