Pic 2. Chano is a very significant astronomical megalithic complex. The photograph above reveals only a little of the astronomy and mathematics that was used in the construction of this  grand  megalithic observatory.

Chano is a tiny yet a major megalithic complex. Situated about 7 kms East of the town of Hazaribagh in the state of Jharkhand in eastern India this megalith is stunning is many ways. The site apart from being a very primitive burial also reveals the fact that the megalith may have been created to observe the transits of the sun or may be also of the moon and certain constellations in the sky.

Pic 3. THE LARGER POINTER MENHIR POINTS TO THE KANHARI HILL (behind the trees in the horizon)

The megalithic complex is positioned exactly on the alignmental line of the Kesura and the Bawanwey Hills. The site is positioned aligned also to Kanhary, Rola  and Silwar hills creating a stunning hex sectioning.

Chano comprises of a few recumbent stones serving as burial covers. Such burials are called sasandiris by the megalithic Mundaric tribes in Jharkhand.

The rest of the stones are positioned with mathematical preciseness which is seen to be believed ( watch.  In the complex there are two different sized stone triangles which seem to serve the purpose of pointers and another point tipped large menhir which is placed inclined towards the Kanhari hill in the horizon. A large menhir has been laid with an East West orientation.

Pic 5. THIS IS THE SMALLER TRIANGULAR POINTER POINTING TOWARDS THE MID WINTER SUNRISE

The tip of the smaller triangle has been inclined towards 120 deg South of East which is the azimuth of the Winter solstice at this latitude.
The larger inclined menhir along with the one of the triangles is aligned towards the sunrise of the summer Solstice.

Chano also houses a phallus with glans.

Pic 6. THE PHALLUS WITH GLANS

Iron slags are scattered everywhere suggesting the presence of the iron smelting Asur tribe during Iron Ages. The author from here had also collected a Neolithic Hand Axe and abundant potteries of which a few are Black and Red type normally associated with megaliths in India.

It is difficult to determine the date of the monument without proper excavation but the surface typology does give a hint the megaliths is probably very old.

Sadly the site could be raised to the ground any day as buildings have grown around this primitive monument posing a great threat to the megalith. It is very unfortunate the government bothers the least.
