Excavated megaliths near Lummawbuh village in Meghalaya dated to 12 cent BC

Marcho Mitri an archaeologist and a team of academicians from the North Eastern Hills University excavated an archaeological site near Lummawbuh village in the northern slopes of Sohpetbneng hill in Meghalaya.

Mitri reports that they found megalithic structures in the ridge. They had the excavated grains, tools and other implements dated at the Miami based laboratory of Beta Analytic. The test result suggested that they were of 12 cent BC.

Mitri states that the megalithic burial site is spread at an area of 1.5 kms over the ridge. The prehistoric megaliths and the tools according to Mitri suggest that they are of Khasi in origin. The megaliths were first discovered in 2004 but studies took more than a decade to suggest that the site was in inhabited till about 200 years ago.
